Position Summary:

The Director of Security is responsible for the strategic leadership, planning, and management of all campus safety and security operations. This role ensures a safe and secure environment for students, faculty, staff, and visitors, while maintaining compliance with federal, state, and local laws, as well as institutional policies. The Director will lead, train, and supervise a team of Armed Security officers, manage emergency response protocols, and collaborate with local law enforcement and emergency services as needed.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop, implement, and oversee comprehensive campus security programs, policies, and procedures.
  • Train, schedule, and supervise security officers, ensuring high standards of professionalism and accountability.
  • Conduct regular risk assessments and coordinate with campus leadership to mitigate safety and security vulnerabilities.
  • Oversee the daily operations of the security officers, including patrols, incident reporting, access control, and emergency response.
  • Serve as the primary liaison with local, state, and federal law enforcement agencies and emergency responders.
  • Lead campus emergency preparedness initiatives, including planning, training, and coordination of drills (e.g., fire, lockdown, active shooter).
  • Utilize security systems (e.g., surveillance, access control, and emergency notification systems) to enhance campus safety.
  • Promote a culture of safety, inclusivity, and community engagement across campus.
  • Assisting the Regional/Area Manager and Administrative Assistant with organizing timesheets, time-off requests, etcetera.

Qualifications:

Required:

  • Open availability to work 10-hour shifts, Monday through Friday, and as needed to ensure the continued security and integrity of the campus on a 24/7 basis.
  • Minimum of 7 years of experience in a supervisory or management role as an Armed/ Unarmed Officer or 10 years of supervisory experience in law enforcement, public safety, military or a related field.
  • Strong knowledge of federal and state campus safety regulations, including the Clery Act and Title IX.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead diverse teams and work collaboratively across departments.
  • Excellent communication, crisis management, and decision-making skills.
  • Proficiency with security technology systems (e.g., CCTV, access control, incident reporting software).
  • Valid South Carolina Driver’s License.

Preferred:

  • Associate’s degree or a minimum of seven (7) years of supervisory experience preferably in Criminal Justice, Public Safety, Emergency Management, or a related field.
  • Law enforcement certification or prior service in a sworn police role.
  • Experience working in a higher education or similar institutional setting.
  • Certified Emergency Manager (CEM), Certified Protection Professional (CPP), or other relevant certifications.
  • Proficient in MS Office Programs (Excel, Word, Access, and PowerPoint).
  • CPR / AED, First Aid, OC Spray, Taser, and Handcuffs certified.

Physical Requirements:

  • Physical fitness test.
  • Ability to lift at least 50 Lbs.
  • This position requires prolonged standing, bending, stooping, walking flights of stairs, running, and demonstrate the ability to defend themselves or others.

Working Conditions:

  • Must have open availability to be available for on-call emergencies, weekends, and special events.
  • May require occasional physical activity, including walking campus grounds, responding to incidents, and lifting or moving security equipment.
